History
Legion Close is a neat post-war infill scheme designed by Owen Batho and Gerry Burns for the London Borough of Islington between 1970 and 1975, it cleverly integrates the chacrater of the surrounding 19th century buildings by using London Stock brick. The narrow site off Offord Road provided 22 family houses and maisonettes, all with ground floor access from the central street with their own private gardens. There are also 14 one-bedroom apartments with shared access with distinctive drum staircases towers. The scheme was awarded the 1973 Award for Good Design in Housing.
