History Chamberlin, Powell and Bon had a long-standing association with Folkestone from the 1960s to the 1970s, working on speculative schemes for private developers. The original design included a residential terrace with stepped balconies stretching half a kilometre, along with a hotel, parking, shops, and a link to a marina below. In the end, only parts of the scheme were realised, such as Whitecliffs and the building for the Welfare Insurance Company, completed in 1971, which has since been converted into flats.
