CHANGES AT MODERNIST ESTATES I wanted to share some big news about the future of Modernist Estates. Many of you have followed my work for years, and you’ll know the website grew from humble beginnings as a Tumblr blog over a decade ago. Thank you for your continued support!
Lately, the number of decent homes available to rent and list on the site has dwindled, and I’ve been reflecting on the future of the site and how to move it forward. At one point, I even considered closing it down. However, I’ve built such a great community who are passionately interested in modernist housing, it would be a shame to let that go to waste.
LISTING HOMES FOR SALE I’ve thought about listing homes for sale for ages, but it always seemed like a huge responsibility—having someone’s future in my hands. I once met with the founder of a boutique estate agency and I asked them, ‘Don’t you worry that the constant inflation of house prices is adding to the housing crisis?’ They looked at me, bewildered. Do I really want to be part of that world? No, not really. But maybe there’s a little gap where I can do things differently and make a positive impact through house sales.
NOT-FOR-PROFIT So, here’s the news: I’ve transitioned Modernist Estates to a not-for-profit company. As part of this change, we’ll be relaunching the website in the next few weeks with a fresh look and expanding into selling homes. We will donate 10% of our sales fees to affordable housing initiatives, supporting causes that align with our values.
PARTNERSHIP WITH CHRISTIAN ELDERSHAW I’m also delighted to announce that I’m partnering with Christian Eldershaw, a seasoned estate agent with 20 years of experience, including time at The Modern House and running his own agency, Ahm. Christian will assist with every step of the sale, ensuring a smooth process from start to finish. With Christian’s expertise and my knowledge of modernist estates, we think it’s the perfect collaboration.
