Description

Caban Corgi is a woodland Scandinavian-style cabin designed by the Welsh architect Graham Brooks in the 1970s, characterized by an emphasis on natural timber and a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. It boasts a timber-clad interior and many original features including floor-to-ceiling glazing, which slides open onto the raised decked terrace. There is an open plan dining and living area, which is furnished with a modern take on 1970s retro charm, and a compact kitchen which is impressively well-equipped, ensuring that you have everything you need during your stay. There are two cosy bedrooms, providing comfortable sleeping arrangements for a small group or family, and a contemporary bathroom with an electric shower. Caban Corgi is located within the mature woodlands of Penlan Holiday Village, comprising around 80 cabins designed by Brooks, it provides an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Dogs are very welcome.

Area

Caban Corgi is strategically located to serve as a base for exploring the stunning Teifi Valley, the Cardigan Bay coast, and the regions of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. The nearby village of Cenarth, renowned for the spectacular Cenarth Falls where one can witness the incredible sight of leaping salmon during certain seasons, is only a mile away. Additionally, a brief car ride will take you to the magnificent Aberporth Beach, which is one of our favourite spots in the area (be sure to check out Mwnt Beach too!). The town of Cardigan is just a short drive away, offering excellent cafes, restaurants, and shops to explore.

Architect

Graham Brooks is best known for his achievements in domestic architecture. He was Based in Penarth, near Cardiff, and created a series of individual houses and speculative housing projects. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Royal Society of Architects in Wales in 2002. Brooks was influenced by Danish design and his notable projects included the Capel House in Llandaff, which won the Gold Medal for Architecture at the 1968 National Eisteddfod, the Elm Grove development in Dinas Powys, characterized by painted brickwork bases and timber-framed first floors, received a Civic Trust Award and Mount House, which featured an open plan with projecting white-painted brick walls, flat roofs, and an exposed timber structure. As well as Penlan, Brooks designed a number of holiday cabins throughout the UK, several of which received Civic Trust Commendations.
